A Seller Feels eBay Guardrailed Him Unfairly

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Recently a buyer opened a return (not a SNAD) because "she just didn't need it". We had no problem with that and we accepted the return. eBay gave the buyer a date to return the item by.

After that deadline passed, we received an email from eBay asking us if the buyer had returned the item. The buyer had not. eBay gave us an option for opening a case which we did. Within 24 hours eBay placed the case on hold.

Within a few days we received the buyer's return, but since the case was on hold we had no way of refunding the buyer. ... Read More

Seller Says Mercari Cashout Fee Is Unprecedented

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I'm reaching out regarding your article on the new Mercari fee structure. What the article does not include is the new fees for sellers. For a regular deposit that can take 5 days Mercari now charges $2. For instant payout the fee is $3. I've never known of any gig work or selling platform that doesn't have a free way to cashout. eBay will cashout at no charge up to daily. Poshmark has a cashout to PayPal instantly for less than a dollar. Even Uber, after all the lawsuits regarding sexual assault, cashes out weekly at no charge and ... Read More

Seller Feels Jilted by Ruby Lane over Pending Fee Hike

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
You published an article on May 4 about Ruby Lane's sudden increase in Seller fees. I can't believe Sellers aren't raising the roof about this. It is a very unfair thing they are doing. Going essentially from $0 per month to $45 per month. Small sellers such as myself will likely not be able to absorb this fee as I do not consistently sell that much there. I've had a few good months but not consistently. Unlike other Sellers, my items are not $1000 items, rather very affordable vintage and antique items.

This is very unfair as they definitely favor their "Legacy" ... Read More

Be Careful When Filing Change of Address on eBay

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I'm currently going through a maddening process with eBay. Sometimes, I can't believe an e-commerce company that is nearly 30 years old still has problems like this.

I recently moved, and since I work from home, I had to change my mailing address for all my various accounts. Normally, no big deal, right? As expected it went fine with updating the various banks, the USPS, and subscription services that I have. But eBay, of course there's a catch.

The day after I updated my addresses on my eBay accounts, they notified me that there was a block placed on my business account, as ... Read More

Beware the Facebook Marketplace Tire-Kickers, Seller Advises

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Have you considered any seller beware articles on Facebook Marketplace? I realize it's a free platform unless one offers shipping. It used to be a good place to sell furniture and other things of value. Now it's been taken over by scam artists. They first ask, IS THIS AVAILABLE? Secondly, they act really interested, coordinate a time to come see the piece and purchase, then they never show after I've marked the post as "PENDING".

I noticed that these potential buyers have profiles, but there's no info on where they live, town or state. I found out that scammers usually reply, "Is this ... Read More
