eBay Seller Unable to Correct UPS Shipping Adjustment Errors

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Long time subscriber. Love your newsletter. I have been selling on eBay since 1998 and have a new one that has came up recently. I ship a number of large boxes weekly via UPS. I have professionally thick wall brand new boxes created for all my large items that are 53x8x29, which keeps it under 130 for UPS or Fed Ex.

I've gotten 4 "shipping adjustments" from UPS recently.... stating box is 57x31x9" (their measured size claims vary, but you get the idea) with a $79+ oversize fee on each one. Called eBay, "they'd look into it'. Messaged the eBay for Business page. ... Read More

eBay Seller Already Factors Shipping Discount in Item Price

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Here's today's aggravating email from eBay

We will offer eBay's DISCOUNTED POSTAGE - by default - on ALL your Calculated Listings...UNLESS you opt-out (to make my listings 'more appealing').

First: I already ACCOUNT for the Discount in a LOWER start or buy price.

Second: I PREFER Buyers CLOSER to East Coast buy from me (faster receipt).

Third: How about NO FINAL VALUE FEE on that 'pass thru Discounted Shipping'?

Fourth: What about shipping SUPPLIES? Like bubble, tape, labels, ink, labels, mailers?

Fifth: Really ? eBay ? Really ?

Sixth: Wonder how many will FORGET to 'Opt-Out' or, it won't 'stick'?

Mercari Charges Buyers Unpredictable Fees

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I am a loyal appreciative reader for 20+years. I have never contacted you directly, but this is something everyone buying and selling on Mercari should be aware of.

I have been buying and selling on Mercari for three years with no major problems (three small ones that were resolved using Mercari help). The March 27, 2024 Mercari change came out removing fees from sellers and imposing them on buyers. In the changes sellers would no longer be charged the 10% FVF on all listing created or adjusted after 3/27/24.

No brainer if you didn't adjust inventory after 3/27/2024, seller would still be charged the 10% ... Read More

How to Get a Refund for eBay FedEx Overbilling

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
I recently sold an item on eBay and shipped it FedEx Ground. I purchased the shipping label through eBay, making certain the weight and dimensions were accurate.

About a week later I received another charge (56% more) for FedEx shipping. I could not get any help from FedEx over the phone as I did not have the account number, which was eBay's.

I spent an hour and a half in the FedEx office. A very helpful representative helped me, got someone on the phone to talk with me, and I received an email address with instructions. As I had documentation showing my two charges paid ... Read More

eBay Fitment Did Not Protect Seller from Unfit Feedback

By: Ina Steiner

Dear Ina,
A buyer left us negative feedback stating the part they bought was for a truck and not a car. Literally the title, description, and fitment information all state the part is for a truck. Nothing in the listing mentions this item fitting a car, nor does it give any indication that it does. On top of that, the buyer entered their vehicle as a truck, which matched with the fitment.

I used the eBay feedback online revision request and the removal was denied. I then called in for an appeal. I was told the feedback was eligible for removal since the buyer entered ... Read More
