By: Ina Steiner

When eBay sales stalled some years ago, it promised Wall Street it would find revenue growth through advertising and payments. By taking over payment-processing from PayPal, it has been able to grow that stream of revenue.

Now it looks like eBay is exploring more ways to boost payments growth by monetizing the credit needs of sellers and buyers. eBay is working on new financial services and is seeking a Director of Product Co-Brand Credit Card.

The job description for the new position explains: "eBay has a unique opportunity to streamline credit products for eBay buyers/sellers with "Uniquely eBay" benefits and rewards that ... Read More

By: Ina Steiner

eBay is making it free to sell used clothing in the UK - but not for everyone. By only offering the policy to "personal" (casual) sellers, it will make it harder for business sellers to compete, according to those reacting to eBay's April 8th announcement, which reads as follows:

"eBay UK announces that as of today, it is free for individual sellers to sell fashion items, a move designed to encourage fashion lovers to put more cash in their pockets while supporting circular fashion.

"It will be free to sell all pre-owned clothing*, including everything from the items you ... Read More

Catch the hottest drops, cops, and more over on @ebay starting 4/1/24. Got questions about the move? Hit us up with a DM."

The main eBay @eBay account has not tweeted anything about sneakers that might reassure followers that the tweet wasn't an April Fools joke, as some followers had ... Read More

Is eBay Competing with Its Sellers?

By: Ina Steiner

A reader questioned eBay's strategy of using a single seller to power the eBay consignment service, which eBay explains is "a service designed to help you sell your luxury apparel and handbags with ease. We take the hard work out of selling your items." The reader posted a comment yesterday on an EcommerceBytes article about eBay's expansion of its partnership with longtime seller Linda's Stuff to handle all of the goods consigned through the eBay consignment service.

"Why wouldn't they choose several/many high-rated sellers to share this process with," the reader asked. "With this, eBay is ... Read More

Good News: eBay Subsidizes Differences in Return Shipping

By: Ina Steiner

eBay encourages sellers to accept returns, and during a podcast today, employees revealed that eBay subsidizes the shipping return label in cases where it costs the buyer more to return the item than it cost the seller to mail it. That's good news for sellers who might worry about being on the hook in the case of customers returning items using bigger boxes and more expensive shipping services.

eBay for Business podcast hosts Kayomi Kayoshi and Jim "Griff" Griffith said eBay charges the seller no more than the amount they paid to ship the item. They were answering a ... Read More
