Brief Outage Hits Etsy a Week before Christmas

Etsy sellers reported problems accessing the site, with some getting a “too many requests” error. In a thread on the Etsy boards discussing the outage, one seller said issues began after 6:15 pm Eastern:

“Same here been trying for hour to list one item. Takes ages to load photos then you get to the end and says something is wrong. Try to save to draft but won’t so list listing. Now desk Top does not even work here says too many request Nicki and lots of codes. It is not my monitor as was able to list very quickly else where. I cannot access desk Top at all . To list manage shop or even shop on Etsy. Which trying to shop on Etsy yesterday l was looking and site just kept crashing no matter what monitor you use. So is serious technical issue. Thought my shop gone very quite. What do we do now. No Etsy.”

DownDetector shows reports started to come in at about 6:30 pm.

Etsy acknowledged the problem and wrote two updates on its Status board under Checkout Issues: “We’ve spotted that something has gone wrong. We’re currently investigating the issue, and will provide an update soon.” The first report was labeled “Investigating”; the second report was labeled “Monitoring”; and the third report was labeled “Resolved.”

Some sellers suggested those continuing to have problems clear their cache, as the problem cleared up for them.

  1. *** Etsy is run by Marketing & Sales ***

The best tech companies are run by techies….Bezos at Amazon…Gates at MicroSoft…Pichai at Google and Zuckerberg at Meta.

Etsy’s Board of Directors decided to hire a Salesman, Silverman, to run a tech company; who is NOT a technologist.

I own a newer iMac and Etsy has slowed down considerably for many processes. Photos to view are slow to respond when selected…and when changing data in my “Title” it now takes over 10 minutes for that change to occur. This is not a good sign for a company who continues to bloat their website with more Sellers and Buyers, causing strain on their system.

    1. You are so right. We purchased a new Imac this Fall and Etsy’s site is still processing things slowly. Patiently waiting for a delete all photo button or rearrange main shop page by bulk. Definitely do not think any of that is on their radar.
