eBay to Make Seller Feedback Searchable

eBay is preparing to make a major change to its feedback feature – some users are seeing a new tab that allows them to search sellers’ feedback.

A few users spotted the new feature as far back as March 28, but more sellers noticed it on Thursday, April 7th, though it’s not available to all users.

For those who see the new feature, clicking on the “Search Seller Feedback” tab brings up a search box labeled “Search with a keyword or item title.” From reports we’ve seen, the feature doesn’t allow users to search comments, just the title of listings for which feedback has been left.

For example, searching “necklace” using the new Search Seller Feedback feature brings back results in which the word necklace appears in the listing title; but if a buyer had left a comment, “nice necklace,” it wouldn’t bring back the feedback comment unless the word necklace was also in the listing title.

Whether eBay plans to allow users to search Seller Feedback comments as well as titles is unknown, as eBay has not announced the new feature as of yet. But searching feedback comments would be a radical change.

It’s odd that eBay failed to mention the new feature in its Spring Seller Update, announced on Tuesday. Nor did it mention in the Seller Update a new way of communicating with sellers that we described in the AuctionBytes Blog on Thursday.
