Have You Been Approached by an eBay Growth Advisor?

The eBay for Business podcast hosted one of the company’s Growth Advisors in its January 2nd New Years episode to discuss how he helps sellers grow their business.

Some of the advice he shared with the podcast hosts was for sellers to look at how their listings were performing organically by reviewing the “listing quality report” and make sure to optimize their listings before spending money on promotions or eBay Promoted Listing ads.

The eBay Growth Advisor, Aaron White, told eBay’s Jim “Griff” Griffith, “helping yourself understand the eBay platform and the platform that you sell on as a seller” is key.

“Education is the biggest portion of it because things are always changing on eBay. So it is kind of hard to keep up a lot of the times, but you do want to make sure that you’re putting forth the effort to do that.”

White also offered advice about refreshing old listings:

“So a lot of sellers that have been selling on eBay for 15 years, sometimes they have a thousand plus listings and they just leave them up and they’ve been up forever without revising and things of that nature. And that can hurt a little bit, right? Granted it may get a sale finally down the road, but when we’re looking to bring on new inventory and you have something that’s been up for six years, honestly you could re-list that and that’s new inventory at that point, right?

“And I don’t mean re-list it and just re-list it, I mean recreate it as a brand new listing. So then the algorithm will see it as you’re bringing on new inventory.”

eBay for Business also featured another Growth Advisor Casey Yardley in a December 2023 podcast, who explained, “As a Growth Advisor, I get to help be a little bit of like a, a guide and a consultant in reminding you what tools exist and helping you find a way that you know, makes sense for your business on where to grow, where to kind of get off the plateau or the kind of like the downward trend. We look at ways for you just to get where you want to be.”

eBay had also featured a Growth Advisor team member named Sarah during its monthly chat session in January of last year. She answered sellers’ questions and explained, “Our team helps sellers focus on the health of their accounts to ensure a solid foundation, and then look at growth opportunities to help grow your business on eBay.”

From what we’ve read from sellers posting over the years, there’s no way to conjure the advisors – they reach out to sellers, though it’s not clear what criteria they use in choosing sellers to coach.

Griffith said the eBay for Business podcast would feature more interviews with Growth Advisors throughout the year 2024 to help sellers grow their business.

  1. Did not even know they had some one like that since I have never heard of it before in my 25 years of doing business on the site.
I would say what growth though since they are killing everything that once was a vibrant marketplace.

  2. Almost a year ago I was assigned an advisor. He was basically full of ideas that just don’t apply to my business. I probably got him because I had doubled my revenue three consecutive years. On April 1, my store died. Within a few weeks my net had dropped 75%! When I tried to contact my advisor nothing but crickets. Nothing has changed since. My store is still dying. At this point, I’m planning on starting another biz and shutting this turkey down.

  3. Not in several years but in the past it was fairly regular. Maybe since I changed to a store account mid-level it ended any telephone promos.
