Poshmark made up a new holiday last year, and it’s giving it a whirl again this year. “Secondhand Sunday” falls on the Sunday after Thanksgiving (November 25th this year) – between Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.
The idea behind the marketing campaign: encourage shoppers to engage in secondhand gifting – good for the wallet and the environment.
Poshmark is a beneficiary of such thinking, calling itself a “leading fashion resale marketplace” in its announcement: “Secondhand Sunday is focused on redirecting shoppers away from mass consumption and toward the purchase of pre-loved goods, supporting environmental sustainability and the livelihoods of individual sellers.”
Poshmark will use its Posh Shows feature to host live-shopping events.
“When we introduced Secondhand Sunday last year, our goal was to not just create a moment, but a movement encouraging people to think differently about shopping secondhand during the holidays,” said Manish Chandra, Founder and CEO of Poshmark.
“More people than ever turned to secondhand gifting, and this year, we are combining the impact of shopping secondhand with the magic and human connection of shopping live, creating an entirely new Secondhand Sunday experience for our community,” he said.
You don’t have to wait til Cyber 5 weekend – the holiday live shopping kicks off with the “Gifts Galore Posh Show: Unwrapping 2023 Holiday Trends” on November 16th.
ShopGoodwill.com is getting in on the action – “Join on November 19th and November 26th as creators demonstrate how to upcycle one-of-a-kind items purchased from ShopGoodwill.com and sell their unique, giftable handmade products live” – and Poshmark will donate 10% of net proceeds from each show back to ShopGoodwill.
And Poshmark will have a series of live-shopping events on Secondhand Sunday.
