eBay Taps Experienced Retail Exec to Head Seller Business

eBay hired Bob Kupbens to the new role of Vice President of Business-to-Consumer Selling. A company spokesperson told EcommerceBytes the executive will lead eBay’s Business-to-Consumer (B2C) category and serve as global initiative owner for its seller experience.

“In this new role, he will drive efforts to scale sellers’ businesses, optimize eBay’s B2C platform for merchant success, and help to acquire new sellers,” she said.

Prior to joining eBay, Kupbens was Vice President of Online Retail at Apple, and he spent eight years at Target in a variety of roles and organizations, from distribution to technology to ecommerce. Between working for Target and Apple, he was head of ecommerce at Delta Air Lines.

eBay has already been pushing the flip side of B2C with several initiatives involving Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C) selling after CEO Devin Wenig called it a key eBay strength last spring. In trying to free what it estimates is $100 billion of value in items in closets and garages (in the US alone), eBay has developed the Valet program that lists items for consumers and entered into a partnership with Shyp, a service that picks up items, packs them, and mails them to buyers on sellers’ behalf.

In Monday’s blog post announcing Kupbens’ appointment, eBay said, “Creating a fantastic experience for our sellers is a key part of eBay’s focus, and B2C selling is a critical area for the overall success of the business.”
