Uber Gets in on Ecommerce Product Returns

Uber Gets in on Ecommerce Product Returns

Uber launched a service to make it easier for buyers to return unwanted items ordered online. The move comes 9 months after DoorDash launched a similar service called Package Pickup.

Uber said its new “Return a Package” feature lets customers order a courier to pick up their prepaid and sealed packages – up to five at a time – and drop them off at a local post office, UPS, or FedEx.

Customers can track their packages in real-time in the Uber app, and the courier will send a visual confirmation or photo of the receipt when the drop-off is completed.

Uber is charging a $5 flat fee, or $3 for Uber One members. Packages sent using Uber Connect have specific monetary value limits and weight limits per vehicle type, and additional item restrictions may apply.

Return a Package is available starting today in the Uber and Uber Eats apps for customers in 4,950+ cities throughout the US, including in the following major metro areas:

Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore-Maryland, Boston, Charleston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Connecticut, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Fort Myers-Naples, Hampton Roads, Honolulu, Houston, Inland Empire, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Lehigh Valley, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis – St. Paul, Nashville, New Jersey, New Orleans, NYC Suburbs, Orange County, Orlando, Palm Springs, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, Richmond, Sacramento, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Tucson, upstate NY, and Washington D.C.
