Mercari Lifted Selling Fees but Beware Possible Limits

It may be free to sell on Mercari now, but apparently the platform kept in place selling limits, according to a reader who had been a member of the site for 5 years. He told us that after reading the article in Newsflash that there were no longer selling fees on Mercari, he began listing more items for sale. But once he reached 100 listings, it blocked him from listing any more items.

Mercari’s message to the seller stated: “Currently you are limited to 100 listings. This will be increased as you complete more sales.”

We reached out to Mercari yesterday asking about its selling limits but did not receive a response by the time of this posting.

There was a discussion on Reddit from January started by a Mercari seller who wrote, “I have been told I have exceeded my listing limit and I need to sell more before I can keep listing. We’re only talking about 300 listings is there something I can do about this?” Some of the responses included the following:

  • “How many sales do you have? You have to make 5 sales before you can have unlimited.”
  • “People have had listing limits of 100 and don’t forget you can only list an item for 2000 dollars max.”

Others said they had not encountered selling limits. Let us know if you’ve encountered any issues, and we’ll update this article once we hear back from Mercari.

Update 4/12/2024: A Mercari spokesperson provided the following information:

“Our listing limit increases as sellers complete more sales. Regarding price limits, when you purchase or list on Mercari, there’s usually a $2,000 price limit. An exception is that you can list or purchase items verified with Authenticate for up to $5,000, in which case we will ask you to complete an additional identity verification. See more in our Help Center.”

  1. I’ve been on for 3 years – I have no selling limit – feedback around 1,600 and have yet to encounter any kind of limitations. I know getting started can encounter a few hurdles but nothing insurmountable
