eBay’s discussion boards are starting to light up with comments from sellers who are no longer able to list fixed-price listings with an expiration date. 3 weeks ago, eBay gave sellers a heads-up that it was making all fixed-price listings “Good Til Cancelled” (GTC) and implementing recurring billing.
GTC listings never expire – instead, they automatically renew every 30 days – so sellers will have to be on the lookout for those recurring listing fees, and must manually end listings if they don’t wish to renew them, though some sellers fear eBay will penalize them for ending listings early.
eBay gave sellers no hard date for the implementation of its new GTC mandate. In its announcement, the company simply stated “mid-March.”
But sellers on the eBay boards report the company started to roll out the new policy this afternoon, as did readers commenting on the EcommerceBytes Blog.
In a post on the eBay discussion boards titled, “Fixed price is defaulting to Good until Canceled!” a seller wrote at 3:53 pm, “Just started doing this. It won’t let me change it.”
In another post, a seller wrote tonight, “The GTC started this evening when I tried to relist an item.”
We sent an inquiry to eBay’s PR department for confirmation.
eBay’s February 26 announcement stated:
“Starting in mid-March 2019, the listing duration for all new fixed price listings on eBay will be Good ‘Til Cancelled. Existing fixed price listings that are not Good ‘Til Cancelled will continue until they sell or end at their specified duration. If a short-duration fixed price item is relisted, the duration will be set to Good ‘Til Cancelled upon relist. Good ‘Til Cancelled listings renew automatically every 30 days unless your item sells before that timeframe. We charge an insertion fee every 30-day period.”

Just another money grab by Ebay who will wonder why they continue to flounder while other sites grown in double digits. Ebay has no clue on how to bring in new buyers as nobody there has any experience in this field and they refuse to listen to their Sellers (aka Noise). Since their sales continue to do nothing to impress anybody they have to find creative ways to con the Sellers into giving them more money to even show their listings (Promoted Listings) try to convince the newbies to buy a store that has more listings than Ebay will even allow them to use, even more so now that everything is GTC.
As Pace calls them the San Jose Mafia strikes again. Now they have to try and figure out next quarters change to get more money from the Sellers once they adapt to this ridiculous program. I really cannot wait for Wenig to be gone as he is the most useless CEO in history in my opinion and if the BOD gives him any bonus this year every one that voted for it should be replaced by the shareholders as they definitely do not have the company or the shareholders best interest at heart.

I am fed up with this new Ebay policy. This “Good til canceled” option really hurts us with small businesses and small Ebay stores. I may have to move to Poshmark or some other selling site. Anyone know any clever work arounds?
