PayPal users in the UK have been unable to access funds since Friday; the company acknowledged the problem via Twitter on Saturday to say it was working to fix the problem. “As a seller, I can’t send anything until the money is in my account. So it will just delay postage. Not good for the customer,” one eBay seller explained in a discussion thread about the issue.
Other sellers turned to the PayPal UK boardsto report the problem and ask if it was a glitch or a new policy for it to take several days to withdraw funds. “I also use it to pay my rent and bills etc and this is a very new problem so let’s hope it’s sorted fast,” wrote one user.
A reader reported the problem on February 19 on Ecommerce EKG: “When trying to withdraw funds FROM PayPal to my Bank Account a new format has appeared. Instead of funds in your account in 2 hours we are back to 3-4 days. This is in breach of UK banking regulations and is a throwback to the situation of a few years ago which got Paypal in to serious trouble and financial penalties imposed. eBay.co.uk & PayPal have BOTH been in total meltdown the last 24-36 hours. SHAMBOLIC.”
On February 20, PayPal tweeted via its UK Twitter account: “We know some customers may be having trouble transferring funds out of PayPal acc. We’re working to fix this issue. Sorry for inconvenience.”

The original poster in the eBay UK discussion board thread referenced above followed up on Sunday, writing, “Must have been some sort of glitch while the PayPal site is being “improved”. Payment went into the account about 3hrs after.” But it doesn’t appear that everyone had such quick resolution to the problem.
