Amazon Shareholder Meeting Gets ‘Dramatic’ and ‘Hostile’

Amazon Shareholder Meeting Gets Dramatic and Hostile

Amazon held its shareholders’ meeting on Wednesday in Seattle, and as Lydia DePillis pointed out in her preview report for CNN on Tuesday, there was a lot on the table, for a change. (“For the first time, Amazon faces an enormous slate of shareholder proposals.”)

In her followup report, DePillis said Amazon’s Board opposed all of the proposals, all of which failed to pass. She described a dramatic moment during the presentation of a resolution backed by Amazon employees on climate change. “Scores of shareholders dressed in white stood up while user experience designer Emily Cunningham invited CEO Jeff Bezos to hear the resolution in person on stage.”

CNBC called the moment hostile, “as the shareholders, including dozens of employees, shared their concerns and asked for CEO Jeff Bezos to come out and listen to their presentations.”

The proposals can be found on the Amazon Investor Relations website.

Amazon’s hometown tech-publication Geekwire also covered the event and captured some of the tweets related to the meeting.

Update 5/25/19: Amazon published the final tallies of shareholder proposals in a filing with the SEC.

  1. I would think at a shareholders meeting climate controls or such wouldn’t be a topic of discussion as the topics at a shareholders meeting is usually business not nonsense
