eBay Invites Some Sellers to List 600,000 Listings

Some sellers were in disbelief recently when they saw an eBay promotion show up in their selling account advertising they could list up to 600,000 listings and pay no insertion fees. One seller started a thread on the eBay boards wondering if eBay had been hacked due to the large number of free listings offered in the promotion.

The promotion explains: “Invited sellers who list in the auction-style, or auction-style with Buy It Now feature added, or fixed price formats, pursuant to the terms and conditions set forth herein, will pay no insertion fee per item listed for up to 600,000 listings per month during the Promotion Period as defined below. 3, 5, 7, 10, 30-day, and Good ‘Til Cancelled listing durations are included as part of this Promotion.”

Those who did not receive the promotion had their own reactions – some wondered how shoppers would find their items if they had to wade through an influx of free listings from sellers who did receive it. Another wrote, “And schmucks like us are PAYING for a couple hundred listings a month. Unfreakinbelievable!”

Also adding to the confusion: sellers who did see the promotion in their account said they had not received an email notification, it simply appeared in the promotion section of their selling accounts. And they noted that they did not have to activate the promotion, a common requirement these days.

There was also a discrepancy in the terms. Sellers said the promotion showed it had started on March 4th and would run through March 31st – but when they clicked through to the terms, it showed the promotion had started in January of last year (2015).

The promotion is by invitation only, and all other fees apply. See your account for details and restrictions.
