eBay Looks to Boost Traffic by Enticing New Affiliates

eBay is turning to affiliates to help boost traffic in a promotion designed to attract new members. The eBay Partner Network (ePN) will give new affiliates who sign up double commissions for their first three months in the program.

When asked what kind of affiliate eBay might be looking to attract, a spokesperson replied, “We’re not looking for any specific affiliate publisher – any new affiliates accepted into the program can earn double commissions for the first three months,” while noting it is a limited time offer.

Affiliates are generally publishers that run ads on their sites, but are paid only if the visitors they drive to the site take a specified action, such as signing up or making a purchase.

eBay explains, “As you drive traffic to an eBay site and your referred shoppers complete a Winning Bid or Buy It Now purchase, you’ll earn a percentage of eBay’s revenue. The more revenue your traffic generates for eBay, the more money you’ll earn.”

eBay’s ePN program explained the new promotion in this blog post and provided reasons why a publisher might wish to join its program – among the selling points:

  • A trusted platform for approximately 157 million buyers and 25 million sellers;
  • Comprised of 13 global eBay websites and over 800 million items across Fashion, Electronics, Home & Garden and many more categories;
  • A 200 percent ongoing bonus for referring new or reactivated buyers (those who haven’t made a purchase within the past 12 months).

Note that according to the terms of the promotion, the double commissions bonus is capped monthly at 5,000 (based on account’s currency).
