Square Launches Marketing Tools for Local Retailers

Square, known for providing online payment solutions to local businesses and retailers, now offers marketing tools for customers who use Square Register. The suite of “powerful Customer Engagement tools” link your online marketing efforts to sales in the real world, the company told users.

One of the new tools, Square Marketing, provides customizable email templates that let retailers create a promotion, an announcement, or an event invitation and send them to pre-organized lists of existing customers – loyal, casual, or lapsed – “so you can target the right audience with the right message from day one.”

It then allow retailers to track the success of their marketing campaigns. The company explained that with Square, “you see precisely how marketing drives in-store sales, whether customers come back, and how much they spend when they do.”

Square suggested retailers use the new feature to invite loyal customers to a “Friends and Family” event, or re-engage lapsed customers with a special deal.

Other tools include Feedback; Customer Directory; and Customer Insights.

Users can choose to pay $15/month per 500 contacts, or pay for features on a per-use basis. For example, subscribers who pay the monthly fee pay nothing extra to send unlimited marketing emails through Square Marketing, or non-subscribers can pay 10 cents per email.

All customers receive Customer Insights for no charge.

A Square spokesperson told EcommerceBytes, “not only are we able to enhance the relationship between businesses and their customers at the time of sale, we now help those businesses continue the relationship beyond it.”

More information about the new Square tools is available on the Square website.
