eBay Adds Proxibid to Live Auction Lineup

eBay is adding Proxibid to its Live Auction lineup, announcing a partnership that will make heavy equipment, industrial machinery, farm equipment, cars and trucks accessible to eBay shoppers.

Beginning later this year, Proxibid’s auction company partners will be able to participate in live auctions on the eBay marketplace. Auctions and special events, which will be promoted by both Proxibid and eBay, will give buyers the ability to participate in traditional live auctions through real-time bidding.

eBay brought back live auctions to its platform in the fall after a 5-year absence, working with Invaluable, Sotheby’s and others – see the Live Auctions landing page here. At the time, eBay’s Gene Cook told EcommerceBytes that the live auctions would be deeply integrated into areas of the eBay site and that a search on eBay for a collectible would bring up results for live auctions alongside listings for traditional auction and fixed-price listings.

Proxibid spokesperson Dana Kaufman would not reveal the terms of the deal but said she believed the relationship will be mutually beneficial. The partnership only pertains to the categories mentioned, she clarified.

“Proxibid sellers will benefit from the added reach gained by exposing their inventory to eBay’s 155 million global buyers,” she said, while “eBay buyers will enjoy gaining easy access to new inventory they want and need, which previously was only available via Proxibid. Proxibid’s sophisticated product suite, industry-leading risk management system, deep industry knowledge, and experience make the company a natural partner for eBay, and we are very excited about this development.”

On Tuesday Cook said in a press statement about the Proxibid integration, “We’re excited to expand eBay’s existing live auctions offering into the business and industrial space.”
