PayPal Follows eBay in Redesigning Its Website

eBay has been on a makeover kick, with a new logo, new social features and a redesigned eBay Store among the changes over the past year or so. Now it’s time for its payments unit to get a redesign – and users can also expect to see more products launches from PayPal this year.

PayPal announced last week it is starting the redesign with the homepage, which it calls the “front door” to PayPal, to be followed by other pages over time. “So although the homepage and more will have this new look and feel, we continue to chip away at the rest of the older content that doesn’t reflect the very best of what we want to bring to you. More to come on that.”

A PayPal spokesperson told EcommerceBytes the redesign is modern and sleek, and is “built mobile-first to not just be easier but safer regardless of which device or platform a user prefers.” 19 million people visit PayPal.com everyday, and the new design demonstrates the “innovative approach the company is taking to make the process simple and secure for every user.”

PayPal develops everything to be mobile-first and the numbers support that decision, the company’s spokesperson continued. PayPal processed $27 billion in mobile payments globally in 2013, nearly 100% over 2012. And more than 90 percent of people in the US own a mobile phone – “consumers want easy access to not just PayPal but every site and service out there.”

Expect more changes as well. PayPal released more products in 2013 than the five years prior, and 2014 is shaping up to be even bigger for the company, according to PayPal’s spokesperson.

The full announcement is available on the PayPal blog, where you’ll also find a brief concept video.
