Deal with Spring Brings Fashion Brands to eBay

eBay

eBay logoeBay has made it clear it wants brands to set up shop on its marketplace one way or the other, and today announced a deal that falls into “the other” category. eBay is providing fashion retail site Spring with a store on eBay that will function like a boutique. eBay said the addition of Spring as a “marquee eBay seller” would help it offer “incredible” selection of brands.

While eBay downplayed one aspect of the deal, saying the move demonstrates it is not competing with retailers, Spring CEO Alan Tisch told CNBC that Spring will become more of a partner with eBay, and said Spring would help curate fashion catalogs for eBay customers ahead of the holidays. It’s unclear of the impact on regular eBay sellers of branded fashion who must compete for exposure on eBay.

You can find the Spring store on eBay on this page, where it displays a surprisingly low Positive Feedback rate of 93.8% and displays negative comments from buyers unhappy about cancelled orders due to out-of-stock items.

Press release follows:

Spring, a top online retail destination, is giving eBay shoppers access to hundreds of brands across clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry, beauty and more, including coveted merchandise from David Yurman, Rag & Bone, Mango and Chloe. The Spring storefront will function like a boutique where eBay shoppers can find, browse and buy all the brands they love in one place.

“Spring’s mission is to bring top brands to consumers at a variety of tastes, style and prices,” said Alan Tisch, Founder & CEO of Spring. “Our new partnership with eBay helps further this mission and expand our reach. Both Spring and eBay are committed to offering unparalleled selection across the best brands – including the newest, hottest styles, sold-out or hard-to-find merchandise, and great deals for every price and style.”

With more than 171 million active buyers worldwide and 370 million downloads of eBay apps, the eBay marketplace is uniquely positioned to leverage its unparalleled scale to connect brands with shoppers. Like other top eBay Fashion sellers, the Spring storefront makes it easy for shoppers to browse and buy many brands, at various price points, from one dedicated destination.

“The Spring and eBay partnership is evidence of a growing trend in which retailers are partnering – instead of competing – with other retailers,” said Jill Ramsey, Vice President of Merchandising at eBay. “We recently debuted a new brand campaign – “Fill Your Cart With Color” – signaling a deep commitment to delivering a more visual and personalized site experience. Now, with Spring, we can bring even more coveted merchandise to our buyers, making it easier than ever to discover their own version of perfect.”

The addition of Spring as a marquee eBay seller with a dedicated storefront is one of the myriad of ways eBay continues to offer incredible selection. Shoppers from around the world can browse eBay’s reimagined homepage and 1.1 billion listings to discover what is right for them based on their individual interests. By combining Spring’s far-reaching access to brands with eBay’s global platform and tech innovations (like Shop the Look, Image Search, Find It On eBay and ShopBot), the eBay and Spring partnership signals a new era of brand collaborations.
