A former PayPal executive will replace Bigcommerce’s founder as CEO. Brent Bellm comes from HomeAway and previously worked at eBay and PayPal. In March, Bigcommerce named former eBay and Intuit executive Lorrie Norrington to its board of directors.
Bigcommerce co-founder Eddie Machaalani will stay with the company as its executive chairman.
The ecommerce platform that hosts websites for small merchants recently launched Bigcommerce Enterprise, a service for high-volume retailers.
Internet Retailer noted Bellm helped lead former employer HomeAway.com through its initial public offering and said Bigcommerce was planning its own IPO.
Rival ecom platform Shopify completed its IPO last month.
Bigcommerce said Monday it now powers over 95,000 stores including such brands as Samsung, Gibson, Marvel, Cetaphil, Schwinn, Pergo, Enfamil, and Ubisoft. Last summer when eBay announced it would shutter its own ecommerce hosting platforms ProStores and Magento Go, it recommended merchants who wished to remain with a hosted service use Bigcommerce.
