eBay told sellers it will turn off the tool that helps them determine if their listings are compliant with its browser security requirements. eBay cuts off descriptions in listings that are not compliant with its new HTTPS security requirement.
eBay made the announcement on the UK seller announcement board, and it may apply to all country sites. Sellers will no longer be able to use the i-ways tool as of December 31, 2017.

From 31 December 2017, you’ll no longer be able to use the i-ways tool to check whether your listings include non-secure content (and will thus display a security warning) or not.
Instead, business sellers can continue using Seller Hub on eBay.co.uk or go to My eBay on eBay.ie to check if any of their listings display with security warnings. Seller Hub shows all of your listings which are not compliant.
In order to update your listings to meet the new HTTPS standards, use Seller Hub to edit up to 200 listings at once. Simply select Edit listings in bulk then find and replace “HTTP” with “HTTPS”.

I guess eBay is really serious about getting all sellers to use Seller Hub, no matter how much we may not wish to do so.
I keep getting notices that my very few listings are at least, in part, not compliant. I was using their supplied tools to bring them into compliance, but now they’ll be gone. This makes a lot of sense when you remind yourself that sellers are not important to eBay in the big picture. eBay seems to think of sellers as an irritating necessity. Without sellers there is no eBay, but they are too all-knowing to grasp such a basic fact.

Your theory is flawed. Ebay doesn’t care if you fix the problem or not. If you don’t fix it then they just won’t show your description. Makes no difference to them they get paid the same but you have a less than efficent listing. Kind of like biting the hand that feeds you isn’t it.
