eBay Appeals to Value Shoppers with Valet Listings

You may be used to seeing eBay promote the Valet program to shoppers, encouraging them to sell their unwanted items through the consignment program. But now eBay is encouraging shoppers to buy items that are for sale through the program.

Here’s an example of how eBay had been marketing the program to would-be sellers looking for an easy way to unload goods to earn some cash (presumably which they could then use to shop on eBay). And as we noted, FedEx Office locations now serve as dropoff points for consignors so they don’t have to package up and ship their goods.

This week, eBay sent emails to users promoting the items for sale through the program. While sending traffic to eBay listings sounds like it would be well received by sellers eager for eyeballs to their listings, there’s one problem: only two companies are allowed to participate in the program as consignment sellers: ModusLink PTS in Tennessee, and Eastvale Store LLC in California.

The marketing email drives shoppers to this landing page on the eBay website. Does the benefit of showing shoppers that eBay has used, high-quality, popular brands for sale outweigh the downside of limiting exposure to only two sellers?
