eBay confirmed that some sellers have been incorrectly charged for voided USPS shipping labels purchased through its site. And what is making the glitch more concerning to sellers is the fact the charges were for labels that they had voided months earlier.
There are indications it's either an intermittent or an ongoing issue, since one thread about the glitch was posted on March 9, 2024 by a seller who explained USPS charged them for 2 shipping labels that had been voided in December 2023. "For some reason the tracking numbers attached to the labels are showing that they were used for shipping in March of 2024. I don't understand how that is even possible. The labels were thrown away in December and never used...but the tracking is updating as if I mailed the packages out last week...which I did not do."
"If the tracking information has the correct address, then it is likely a clerical error on the part of the Post Office. If their scanner was set to "Delivered" instead of "Accepted" during the scan, it will update the tracking information with the Delivered status.
"Unfortunately, this does mean that the tracking number will not update in subsequent scans of the label. However, a USPS customer service representative should be able to provide you with updates via their internal tracking database."
That's exactly what one seller who commented on a thread about the voided-label glitch
said happened to them:
"In addition to this issue with USPS this week, they mis-scanned all the orders I shipped on Monday. Although I watched them scan each package, they scanned them as "Delivered - Picked up at USPS" instead of "Accepted." I did not realize it until a buyer (thankfully) contacted me asking why their packaged showed Delivered so quickly. I rushed back to the post office and they were able to correct it, but the eBay system never updated. Everything is correct when you view the tracking on USPS.com. So I already had to message buyers about what happened so they did not all panic when they were notified that their packages were delivered already. Oh, USPS has also lost one of my orders that I sent two weeks ago. Ugh.
"Thank you for your report. We are aware of this issue and working with USPS to refund charges for voided labels you did not use. We will be refunding impacted transactions in the coming days and will also send email notifications to sellers who were charged in error. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this issue quickly."
In another thread on the discussion boards, the moderator wrote the following message from the eBay Shipping Team:
"Thank you for your report. USPS has notified us about an invoicing error where some customers were charged for shipping labels they had previously voided. We have resolved the issue with USPS and are issuing credits for impacted transactions. You can expect to see the credits in your payments account within the next 48 hours. You will also receive an email notification from eBay if you were impacted by this issue."

Readers may recall that in April,
eBay had a major issue when a glitch changed buyers' shipping address when using the eBay app.
