eBay Glitches Impact Shipping Details and Ship-to Addresses

eBay buyers and sellers are reporting a glitch that changes their shipping address when using the eBay app. An eBay moderator acknowledged the issue on Thursday after a seller reported the issue on the eBay discussion boards.

In the thread, a seller reported on Wednesday: "Overnight the app is updating and it is changing my shipping address to my home address. I do not operate my business from my home and this only started happening over the past few days. Others have suggested turning off location services or deleting the app entirely and working strictly from the desktop."

Critically, the problem is also impacting buyers' ship-to addresses, which an eBay moderator acknowledged in a response to the thread on Thursday: 

"Our Product teams have seen reports of this as well and they are investigating the issue. As of now we do not have a ticket we can share but if and when one does come open we will be sure to let you and others know." 

In another thread on the eBay discussion boards, a seller reported a problem with eBay changing their shipping details: "When I create a listing by using "Sell a Similar Item" and change all of the details to my item's details, the site keeps changing the shipping details back to those of the original item (i.e., when I save and close the draft and go back to it later). This has been happening for a long time. It's very annoying!"

An eBay moderator replied on Wednesday: "Our product team wanted to reach out and say thanks for reporting and it will be looked into." 

Accurate ship-to addresses and seller shipping details are crucial to smooth transactions. While those two issues did not appear on the Technical Issues discussion board thread, which was updated today, eBay did update the list to include a third glitch:

"Tracking details not updated automatically after purchasing the label (April 17,2024)."

However, we tracked down a post where an eBay moderator said the tracking issue had been resolved.

eBay is playing with the shipping module(s) (as mentioned by Ina in a previous column) changing sellers discounts and OOPS broke something…..

eBay makes ‘changes’ to it’s shipping ‘assistance’ and suddenly experiences a half dozen glitches in it’s shipping ‘assistance’that come as a complete surprise to the ‘teams’ allegedly responsible for chaos avoidance, who nevertheless assure all shall be well and kept informed.  Which never happens.

That’s not magic.  It’s just another day on the bay.

I think it’s pretty obvious at this point that their coders make changes on the fly and just test in production.

In April ordered on EBay an $30.00 item. Had verified my PayPal billing and ship to addresses were correct.
When the package didn't arrive, I contacted the merchant who had shipped it to the wrong address... he didn't have my billing address at all and my ship to had the wrong address and zip. I then found the e-commerce alert about this EBay programming address error and notified the EBay merchant. He said Wow…was unaware of it, then nicely told me to take my complaint to PayPal and that he was sure they would take care of me. I could not reach PayPal directly by phone.  The system asked me to file a PayPal dispute form due to non-receipt and asked if it was shipped to the wrong address. I confirmed and additionally added the e-commerce alert url regarding this EBay shipping address programming error. After filling out the form, EBay updated my non-receipt inquiry that the case was closed due to my dispute. PayPal then updated my transaction with a package delivered status.  They did not reimburse or even contact me. So EBay and PayPal, although they are aware of the problems they caused, are leaving me, the buyer, to suffer the financial loss. I should probably not do business with PayPal or EBay ever again.
