Jan 15, 2014 | 1. Bandwidth overages - will add up real fast and the store owner will be paying 7 times to 100 times the going rate for bandwidth usage. Currently Volusion charges $7/gb overage. This is outrageous and almost ludicrous! Most competitors offer unlimited bandwidth or overages for free or starting under $1/gb, but the big kicker is in my next 2 points.
2. Performance - Because of their outdated platform, the internal function of the site will consume lots of bandwidth when someone or Google crawl your site causing large amounts of bandwidth to be consumed while delivering slower than normal speed.(buyers do not like to wait for a page to load)
3. Ghost Crawlers/Bots- We found out that the cause of our overages were based in large part to 1 or 2 "bots" crawling our site. These were not customers or search engines indexing. These were bots consuming huge amounts of bandwidth(more than search engines indexing our site).

Feb 17, 2013 | I called a couple of times with questions on setting up my store and their customer service people were excellent. I found setup instructions easy to follow, with only one or two small exceptions. The only negative is that their credit card acceptance system is too expensive for someone starting a new web site and with very low volume. |
