Etsy is out with its New Year predictions about fashion trends, including the color of the year for 2024: Berry.
Dayna Isom Johnson has been following Etsy’s sales and predicting trends for the online marketplace since 2016 when she became its “Trend Expert.” With a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, she first joined Etsy in 2011 in its PR department.
On the company blog post, “Etsy Unveils 2024 Trend Predictions & Color of the Year: Romance Takes Center Stage,” Johnson said 2024 is entering the “romantic era” and invited shoppers to join the company:
“Whether that’s transforming your bathroom into a self-care sanctuary, or dressing in ballet-inspired flats and soft silky fabrics, Etsy sellers are here to infuse a little romance into your life in both big and small ways, and for every budget. And with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s a fitting theme to inspire those seeking extra-special gifts for their beloved.”
It’s clear Johnson enjoys what she does. In a 2018 interview, she said, “Being a trend expert at Etsy is all about unearthing the most fabulous things in the world—hopefully before anyone else finds them. It means I’m on Etsy all day long, immersing myself in our incredible inventory of more than 60 million items*. I’m fortunate to be able say that I really love what I do.”
(Etsy now has 6 million sellers – listing 120 million items – to 90 million active buyers, according to its CEO on December 6th.)
It’s not clear how much buyers and sellers are influenced by trends published by marketplaces, but it could provide some inspiration to their shoppers. The latest trend predictions from Etsy certainly was a reminder to sellers that, before they know it, buyers will be looking for Valentine’s Day gifts.
WOW! Etsy picked up 1 million sellers very quickly! You’re reporting that on December. 6th, Josh said Etsy has 6M sellers and in today’s layoff letter (December 13), he says there’s “nearly 7M sellers.”
