The eBay Spring Seller Update for 2019 is officially here. Some of the most noteworthy updates include changes to seller protection policies, Managed Payments, and the GTC Mandate billing process. And buried in the announcement: fee changes for eBay Stores.
Earlier today we posted information about the eBay UK Spring Update on the EcommerceBytes Blog, which upon first glance seems nearly identical to the US Update. In the US, eBay is making changes to its User Agreement, and it announced changes impacting Managed Payments, which is not yet available in the UK.
And what’s a Seller Update without higher fees, and while a hefty hike, this one won’t impact every seller. eBay explains:
“Starting on June 1, 2019, we will increase the final value fee cap for Basic and Premium eBay Stores from $250 to $350. The final value fee cap for Anchor and Enterprise Stores will not change.”
Here is eBay’s summary of the key changes in the Spring Seller Update for users on eBay.com:
Seller Protections
- New measures to protect you from buyers who violate eBay policy
- Reduced search visibility for sellers who use a retailer to ship directly to buyers
Managed Payments
- PayPal and PayPal Credit methods of payment are now available
Growth Tools
- Non-Store subscribers now have access to Promoted Listings
- Best Offer and “Offer to buyers” enhancements in Seller Hub
- Drive multi-quantity purchases with new Volume Pricing listing and promotion features
Inventory Optimization
- Category changes and item specifics updates for more intuitive buying, selling, and search experiences
- Optimize your Home & Garden category listings with recommended item specifics
Marketplace Updates
- New calendar-month renewal schedule for Good ‘Til Cancelled listings
- Easily relist cancelled items and remorse returns for single-quantity listings
- State sales tax exemption is now available to qualified buyers
- Efficiently track and manage your orders with updated order numbers
- Final value fee cap and performance standard fee updates

Increased seller protections…..sounds like what we supposedly had before…..a bunch of hot air!
So the new Seller Protections are exactly the same as what is supposedly on the books right now. So they are just fluff? They mean absolutely NOTHING. Ebay will never protect a seller over a buyer. Nothing burger update, just lots of empty promises. Same old, same ole. SOP for ebay. Get your attention with new lipstick, same old pig. As stated yesterday, grab your wallet and your ankles, another Update.
I just want to sell the Good Stuff out of my attic.
But there’s too much to deal with.
NO SALE.
Ditto to The End.. I used to sell something here and there I no longer used, it got so pricey and complicated years and years ago, I bagged it. Where do people go now to sell? I don,t even want to support them anymore as a buyer.
Hi Felyne,
Search : Sell my stuff online
See what you get…..
When eBay says “new seller protections,” I can’t help but recall that exchange from the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Brody: Where is the Ark?
Eaton: I thought we’d settled that. The Ark is somewhere very safe.
Jones: From whom?
Brody: The Ark is a source of unspeakable power and it has to be researched!
Eaton: And it will be, I assure you, Dr Brody, Dr Jones. We have top men working on it right now.
Jones: Who?!
Eaton: Top. Men.
