Etsy launched a new Gift Mode feature with great fanfare on Wednesday, touting it as a way to bring more buyers to the site. Now it is offering to share tips with sellers on how they can optimize their shops for gifting.
In Wednesday’s announcement, Etsy called the new Gift Mode an interactive hub for gifting that combines AI and human curation to help shoppers find the perfect present and said it would advertise the feature in TV commercials during playoffs and the Super Bowl.
Sellers can attend an online session called “Optimizing Your Shop for Gifting: Prep Your Shop For Gift-Seeking Buyers” on January 31st featuring two sellers who will share what they’re doing to get their shops ready – Alaina Smith of Cold Gold and Kirstie Wang of A Jar of Pickles.
Etsy is also offering “EtSEO” listing critiques beginning January 29th – sellers submit listings for a chance to receive a critique. It explained: “Etsy staff from across the company will be critiquing listings. They’ll share their role and title in their comments. While they may not be SEO experts, they’ll be getting support from a team of search optimization pros.”
And in February, Etsy will hold two sessions, one on Google SEO and one with tips on photographing “giftable” listings.

I have such a large distrust of Etsy that anything they recommend, I would do the opposite.
