eBay will host a one-day auction of Pokémon-themed collectibles from three eBay sellers on February 27 to coincide with Pokémon Day. All 151 auctions will start the bidding at $1.51 in honor of the original trading card game “Catch 151,” which debuted in 1996.
Not only is eBay hosting the auction, but it’s also guaranteeing the authenticity of the items through its Authenticity Guarantee program.
eBay will also host a live-shopping event to coincide with the auction, writing in today’s press release:
“While chasing coveted auction items, fans can tune into a non-stop Pokémon Day marathon on eBay Live, eBay’s Live shopping platform accessible via the eBay app, streaming from 12:00 pm EST on February 27 until 12:00 am EST on February 28. Nine sellers will feature a diverse range of Pokémon inventory – including a case break of a Pokémon HS Undaunted Booster Box, originally released in 2010.”
eBay also listed the top three most expensive Pokémon items sold on eBay in 2023, one which topped $200,000:
- PSA 10 GEM MINT Charizard Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Pokémon Card 4/102 ZM1 (November 2023, $217,500)
- 1999 Pokémon CGC 8 NM-MT Charizard Disco Holo Test Print Shadowless Base Set 4 (August 2023, $125,000)
- 1999 Pokémon CGC 5 EX Charizard Disco Holo Test Partial Print Shadowless Base (August 2023, $100,000)
Trading cards and collectibles are part of eBay’s focus category strategy. eBay believes buyers coming to purchase items in its focus categories are big spenders in other categories as well.
The Pokémon auction will kick off on eBay.com at 12:01am EST on February 27, 2024.
Will someone again tell me SleazyBay doesn’t play favorites.
