Etsy to Run Session on Promoting Shops via Social Media

Etsy

Etsy logoEtsy will hold a session next week to provide direct feedback to sellers on their social media activity. On January 19th, sellers will have one hour to submit posts to be considered. Etsy employees will then provide feedback and specific ideas about what sellers could try in the future.

Announcement follows:

Each new year brings with it a dose of motivation and creative energy, and we want to help you make 2018 your best year yet. Starting this week, we’re sharing tips and inspiration you can use to invest in your shop, grow your following, and spend more time on the good stuff. Check out the Love Your Shop guide here.

Today, we’re excited to announce a new opportunity for 1 to 1 feedback, right here in the Etsy Forums! We often hear from sellers that you look for new advice, inspiration, and tips for promoting your shop and products on social media.

On January 19, Etsy Admin—in partnership with Etsy’s Social Media team—will review social media posts and provide feedback and specific ideas about things you could try in the future.

We’ll be accepting social media post submissions from 12:00-1:00pm ET and deliver feedback between 1:30pm US ET and 4:00pm US ET.

We’ll consider requests using a random, lottery system, so any seller who posts during the hour could have their social media posts critiqued. (We won’t choose sellers on a a first come, first-served basis.) Please note that thoughtful reviews take time to put together, which means we won’t be able to respond to every request during this session.

**HOW TO PARTICIPATE**

Head into the Discussions section of the Forums on Friday, January 19 at 12pm US ET. You’ll find a “Social Media Post Reviews” thread pinned to the top of the section. You can respond to that thread until 1pm US ET with a link to a specific Facebook or Instagram post that you would like us to review.

Note: You can share only one social media post for the session, so choose wisely! We recommend choosing a post that got lower likes or comments than you expected, so we can share tips on how to make similar posts more effective in the future.

Etsy Admin will share their feedback on a rolling basis from 1:30-4pm US ET. (Not necessarily in the order that the links are received.)

Thanks and hope to see you there!

  1. Best advice for your social media? Don’t promote other sites you have no control of like Etsy. Get your own site through Squarespace or Shopify and only promote those websites. When you promote an Etsy shop you have no control of how potential buyers are pulled out of your shop and into others, how less expensive ‘you may also like’ items are shown, and essentially, you are working as a free round the clock advertising agency for a website that hasn’t done anything for you for free, ever.

  2. Want to hear about Etsy’s latest “dirty little trick?” They have introduced a filter for “ships in one business day” and “ships in 1-3 business days”. When buyers select this the search defaults to showing them only shops/items in their own country.

Many international sellers ship within 1-2 business days but they are being left out in the cold by this sneaky little trick which is “localization” by the back door.

What this means in practical terms: Etsy international sellers are losing their USA customers and increasingly their listings are being shown only to buyers in their own country. For smaller countries where Etsy is not well known this is proving to be catastrophic.

International sellers pay the same fees as USA sellers but have NEVER received the same facilities – which Etsy calls “privilages”.

Etsy is no longer a global selling site.
