In every issue, readers soundoff about issues important to them. From shipping issues to payment processing, from fees to online marketplace policies, EcommerceBytes Soundoff gives you a chance to air your views.

Dear Ina,
The new PayPal Policy update email specifies “We’re changing how we treat refunds. If you refund (partially or fully) a transaction to a buyer or a donation to a donor, there are no fees to make the refund, but the fees you originally paid as the seller will not be returned to you.”

Essentially this means with eBay free returns, sellers are out shipping and return shipping and will now lose all PayPal fees as well. This appears it will also impact cancellations – if a buyer requests to cancel an ebay order paid with PayPal that was $400.00, this will cost the seller about $12 in fees.

Dear Ina,
I just posted your article about ads in ebooks. I have thousands of authors following me on Twitter, and about a thousand or so on Facebook. I imagine this is going to cause some hot debate.

I doubt it will change anything at Amazon. But I do believe it will harm those who get paid by the page as ads are apt to cause the reader to go do something else besides read the book.

I sell my books, and am not in the read for free Kindle program, so the Kindle program won’t affect me. But if someone has to look at an ad before they buy my book, then I expect few will buy ebooks.

Dear Ina,
You were so good about broadcasting my last comment on eBay I thought I’d give it another shot.

eBay just went (at least for me) to a “no option” situation of the “new” “Purchases” screen. Let’s just stick with ONE problem. Hmmm, do you think it might be a good idea to have a TOTAL on the “Unpaid Invoice” tab?

From what I can tell, the only way to see a total (if it is a multi-day auction for example) is to click on “Pay Now”.

One (half) step forward (can’t think of what it would be, but there MUST be one), and TEN steps back.
Sincerely,
William
P.S. Too many OTHER problems with the new setup to list them all.

Dear Ina,
I listed some auctions earlier this evening and then received 3 Best Offers good for 48 hours. I saw reports about this last fall, but I didn’t pay much attention. I suspect that others may have reported this feature or bug in late March or early April on eBay Discussion boards. I am not sure, because I have not found an effective way to search the boards and I don’t understand their structure, which appears to be random to me.

eBay GTC only, PayPal refund changes, out-of-state sales tax collection and spam eBay messages: Are sellers under attack, or is just my imagination?

Thank you,
Clark
