eBay is planning its next two coupon marketing campaigns while its current President’s Day promotion is still running. Only a small group of sellers are invited to participate in eBay coupon campaigns that it heavily promotes on its website, in emails, and on social media.
The current President’s Day promo is limited to 165 sellers. Despite the fact it looks like eBay is offering the discounts, it’s sellers who must offer the discount (frequently 20% off) on their listings in order to participate.
Next up: March Madness and Spring promotions.
The promotions attractive to shoppers who receive 10% – 20% off as long as they use the appropriate coupon code. But it’s difficult to make a blanket statement about the attractiveness of participating in the campaigns. On the one hand, eBay says sellers get a 3x lift in traffic during coupon promotions, according to the company.
On the other hand, sellers must have margins that can support offering a 20% off discount on their items.
For sellers who don’t participate, know that eBay states that “only sellers who have opted in to the coupon receive the traffic through our marketing.”
The March Madness coupon campaign runs from March 8 through March 12 and offers a 10% discount to shoppers who use the coupon.
The Spring campaign runs from March 20th through March 26 and offers a 20% off discount to shoppers who use the coupon.
Sellers who are invited and wish to participate must sign a contract and on the day of the coupon, must put subtitles on their listings with the coupon code.
For instance, listings participating in the current campaign feature the subtitle, “Get 20% off with code: PRESDAY, $25 min purchase req.”
