Former Blackthorne Developer Launches SixBit for eBay Sellers
By Ina Steiner
SixBit Software founder John Slocum knows eBay tools very well - he created one of the first software tools for eBay sellers in the 1990s, which eBay acquired in 1999. Ten years later, Slocum left eBay, but not his love of programming, and he decided to launch his own company selling software for eBay and multi-channel sellers.
SixBit Software just released the full version of its new eBay software for Windows users, with prices ranging from a free version all the way up to $49.99/month. The software helps online sellers list and manage items on eBay, and the company plans to add support for additional marketplaces this year, most likely starting with Etsy and Amazon.com.
SixBit launched a free version of the software last year. Unlike many services that are offered "in the cloud" these days, SixBit is a desktop-based application and supports Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. The four versions launched this week range in price from a free Starter Edition to a version for $49.99/month:
- Starter Edition (free)
- Home and Hobby ($9.99/month)
- Small Business ($24.99/month)
- Ultimate ($49.99/month)
The product page describes the features of each version.
SixBit Software integrates with eBay's API to allow sellers to automatically send invoices, payment acknowledgements, shipping notifications and feedback reminders. Sellers can also automate the feedback process so they don't have to manually leave feedback for their customers. Reporting includes Profit & Loss, sales tax reports, and it offers integration with Endicia, UPS and Express 1, and Shipsurance postal insurance.
Other features include support for multiple eBay accounts; and employee accounts, so sellers can set permissions to limit employees' access to the software.
Slocum said, "By combining our years of experience with the latest database and user interface technologies, we believe that SixBit is poised to become the premier desktop application not only for eBay, but other selling sites in the future."
