A FedEx initiative is making its shipping services more appealing to small sellers by unifying its Ground and Express networks. In reporting on the company’s statements during its recent earnings call, Supply Chain Dive explained that shippers using both FedEx Ground and Express services will no longer have to juggle separate pickup times. It quoted FedEx Chief Customer Officer Brie Carere, who said, “This has been the only feature gap we had to UPS in that (small customer) segment, and we are about to close it.”
In January, FedEx also discussed fdx, a new commerce platform coming this fall that promises to offer shippers “end-to-end e-commerce solutions for businesses of all sizes – all in one platform,” saying it would make it easier for companies to grow demand, increase conversion, optimize fulfillment, and streamline returns.
FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam said at the time that the company would use insights from moving 15 million packages per day to transform into a digitally-led business.
The FedEx moves come as small sellers appear more open to using USPS alternatives and as shipping costs continue to grow.
