eBay’s Product Research tool is now available on the eBay app for iOS and Android, giving sellers 3 years of pricing data for sold listings. The tool is based on Terapeak, which had been around since the mid-2000s and was acquired by eBay in 2017.
In March, eBay Senior Product Manager of Seller Experience – Growth & Insights Shelley Ball walked through the tool’s features during the Seller Check-in event; her presentation is available on YouTube:
eBay Product Research provides three years’ worth of eBay sales data to sellers, including an item’s selling price, average sold price, sold price range, percent sold with free shipping and average shipping, and the number of sellers who have sold a specific product.
eBay made a point of saying the tool now includes an item’s actual sold price – including the accepted price for Best Offer listings. That’s important because up until last year, eBay had shown the selling price at the BIN price even when a seller accepted a lower Best Offer price, which had artificially inflated selling prices.
eBay Product Research provides key metrics and a price trend graph that shows average sold data for an item over time, and users can search, sort, filter, and view data in a variety of ways.
There’s also a “Sell one like this” feature that starts a new listing with information pre-populated from a sold listing that sellers can use or modify to best describe their item.
Desktop users can access it on Seller Hub, a free eBay resource featuring tools and tips for sellers. Future updates will incorporate additional information such as sell-through rate, more trend graphs, and the ability to view active listings. See Tuesday’s post on the eBay Announcement board.
I watched the video on how to use the Product Research on mobile, but when I go into “Selling”, nothing shows up in my Tasks for ‘Research”. Any idea why? Do I need to delete the app and reload it?
I like it, I sold a item that had already sold and I found the ghost listing from last year. Finally got to prove its ebay and not me.
Tried researching a few items I’ve sold over the past several years. This wonderful new feature says none have sold in the past year, 2 years or 3 years.
