The head of Amazon Stores Worldwide went on camera to deliver good news about Prime order delivery speed and selection. In a blog post, Doug Herrington said Amazon sent over 2 billion items in Q1 (the first three months of the year) that arrived same-day or next-day, worldwide. And in March, nearly 60% of Prime member orders arrived the same or next day across the top 60 largest US metro areas, and 75% of items arrived the same or next day in London, Tokyo, and Toronto.
In his post on the Amazon website, Herrington said: “When Amazon first launched Prime in the U.S. in 2005, we offered free Two-Day Shipping on one million items. We now offer more than 300 million items with free Prime shipping, including tens of millions of products available with Same Day or One-Day Delivery. That is over 20 times more products that we can deliver twice as fast compared to when Prime first launched.”
He made a point of mentioning Amazon’s third-party sellers and brands: “We work with independent sellers and small businesses such as U-Simply Season, Bubble-Blooms, and Gifts Fulfilled who offer unique products and great value options. We also partner with popular brands like Dyson, Levi’s, and Stanley, as well as premium brands such as Clinique, Coach, and Peloton.”
In the upbeat video posted on YouTube, Herrington emphasized the selection of items at various price points and provided an example of something he found on Amazon that might surprise consumers. He purchased a “dilapidated” pellet stove and needed a replacement part, which he found on Amazon. Shoppers might think first of eBay for parts, so watch for moves Amazon may be making in this area.
*** Many e-commerce sites will not survive ***
As a Buyer, I have nothing bad to say about Amazon. Amazon drivers never speed down my street, and with a fulfillment center just 15 miles from my home, I can pay an additional $6.99 to ship “same day”.
Amazon is run by smart people who knew how to put Amazon on the map for success. Amazon never disappoints.
Why would I take the chance to purchase an item from a small seller on eBay or Etsy, when I can purchase something from Amazon with confidence? I could purchase a clothing item from Etsy and hope that it fits, OR, I can purchase a clothing item from Amazon with free returns.
Money is no longer cheap as the world is dealing with inflation, post, the Covid recovery. Survival for Sellers is when they sell products that cannot be found on Amazon.
