eBay Sellers Desperate after GoDaddy Bookkeeping Ends Support

By: Ina Steiner

Online sellers are scrambling after learning today they'll no longer be able to use GoDaddy Bookkeeping to track expenses and prepare their taxes. eBay sellers in particular are desperately seeking alternatives.

One seller told us, "This is major, Ina, as I don't know if QuickBooks even has the ability to import our eBay sales, let alone from multiple eBay stores."

GoDaddy sent the following message to customers this morning:

Online Bookkeeping will retire in 30 days.
After much consideration, we've made the decision to discontinue Online Bookkeeping on June 18, 2022. At that time, the Online Bookkeeping tool will stop importing transactions from your connected channels and your existing data will be archived. To provide you with the best possible experience going forward, we've partnered with Intuit to offer you a special discount on QuickBooks Online.

You have until September 30 to download your Online Bookkeeping content. You can either move your data to QuickBooks using our migration tool or export your .csv file and import it to another accounting platform. You'll receive a prorated return for any time remaining on your term.

We appreciate your business and are here to help make your transition as smooth as possible.

Our reader explained the dilemma he and online sellers faced:

"We've been using Go Daddy bookkeeping for over a decade, so this is really bad news. At only $10 and some change/month, it's been the most affordable bookkeeping system we found for importing eBay sales and for preparing for our taxes.

"Does anyone have suggestions besides QuickBooks? Or, does anyone know if QuickBooks can import multiple eBay stores?

"I’m sure QuickBooks is far more expensive than what we've been paying for Go Daddy bookkeeping. So disappointed in this news."

Quickbooks Online pricing is available on this page, and GoDaddy provided the following faq about the discount it had negotiated for its users, which is good for one year:

How much will Intuit's QuickBooks Online cost me?
We have negotiated a good deal for you on QuickBooks Online. You can get 40% off the subscription fee for the first year on any of the plans, starting at $25/month. For comparison, if you were using the GoDaddy Bookkeeping Essential plan, you should find most of its features in Quickbooks online "Simple start" plan.

We had heard rumblings in March about GoDaddy Bookkeeping's possible demise and had reached out to the company. A GoDaddy spokesperson initially said, "We still offer GoDaddy Bookkeeping for sale to our customers and we haven't sent any notifications that we're discontinuing the product," and in a follow-up note, wrote, "We checked and customers can still set up new accounts by calling in. We're still looking into the other details and will be in touch."

Unfortunately by waiting until today to confirm the news, it leaves sellers only 30 days to search for an alternative and get it up and running. We sent another inquiry to GoDaddy this morning.

Some sellers discussing the news online were skeptical, fearing it was a phishing email, but in a faq on its website ("Why is GoDaddy Online Bookkeeping being discontinued?"), the company wrote the following:

"GoDaddy Bookkeeping has a great set of features that meet customer's need and is nominally priced. Over these years, we have worked hard to ensure the reliability and performance of the product. But the company's strategic priorities have shifted away from bookkeeping and we may not give the full attention this product desires. Other bookkeeping tools on the market may be good fit for your needs in the future."

We'll keep an eye out for any announcement from eBay or other marketplaces - if you get one, please forward it to us and we'll share it here. And please share your suggestions for colleagues about alternative bookkeeping tools that integrate with ecommerce platforms along with the costs of using them.

How is it legal for Godaddy to sell me a year of this service, and then cut it off 3 months later with no offer of a refund.   I guess unregulated US capitalism is what makes that possible.   I also will have to talk to my lawyer, though with the USA's pro US corporation anti US Consumer laws, it totally wouldn't surprise me if a US corporation could do this.

The solution for that garbage overpriced quickbooks isn't worth it, you have to pay extra ontop of the outrageous fees for a plugin that works with ebay, and I highly doubt it works nearly as well.

Well, time to move 50+ domains from Godaddy to Enom.   I refuse to do business with a company that sells me a year of service and then cuts it off 9 months early.

I am troubled by this. GoDaddy has been an absolute godsend when it comes to keeping my books straight. In a world where eBay's numbers never add up, GoDaddy has been a reliable way to keep track of things. It is simple to use, updates regularly, and almost never has any technical issues.

I have used Quickbooks, which is why I chose GoDaddy before it was GoDaddy Bookkeeping. I think it was called Outright or something like that. Quickbooks is accounting software that requires that you understand accounting to set it up properly. It is more time consuming. I cannot speak to the integration with eBay. But knowing eBay, I can't imagine that it will be a seamless as what I am used to.

I understand accounting. I have never been a fan of Quickbooks.

This is really bad news. It will take an extraordinary amount of time for me to get ready for this change.

That’s what happens when you place all of your trust in a product you cannot hold in your hands i.e. apps, the “cloud” etc. These ephemeral things can go “poof” at any time, can be hacked at any time, and you are also at the mercy of their failure.  IMO nothing beats using an old-fashioned calculator, paper, pencils, a Dome bookkeeping ledger, a filing cabinet, your brain, and of course your hard drive to safekeep your spreadsheets until you are ready to save them permanently in hard copy.

Yes, Quickbooks can handle multiple stores. You would treat each store as a different company. There may be better ways to do this so maybe some other users have a better idea.

No doubt ebay was treating GoDaddy the way it treats its sellers!  Go Daddy decided they didn't need to be ''jerked around'' either.

Obviously they got bought up by Quickbooks, who will charge double or more for the same service, and who may not have the software to intregate your sales from Ebay or elsewhere.

I am waiting to find out if the eBay Connector, now free to QuickBooks Online subscribers, supports s separate eBay connector for each eBay store. Because eBay and PayPal payments end up in the same bank account, one QBO "company" is sufficient. I will consider the connector a success if it manages three eBay connectors and captures gross sales in addition to eBay payments and withdrawal transactions to and from the checking account.

Gross sales for the year should match amounts reported in the eBay 1099-K. So far, eBay has made it very difficult to capture gross sales from payments or sales reports. Because one store is entirely for consignments, sales transactions will be handled differently in QuickBooks. Once the checking account is reconciled, gross sales can be compared with eBay sales captured by SixBit. If gross income is available, missing eBay fees can be calculated. If the connector does not include gross sales, I will consider it to be a failure and move on to plan B which would require moving data into QBO using Transact SQL and an ODBC connection to QuickBooks.

While the process of downloading eBay transaction reports and importing them into a database is painful, it is possible to calculate gross sales and match the amounts in the eBay 1099-K. Reconciling Managed Payments with the 2020 1099-K was successful. Unfortunately, the 2021 MP transaction downloads contained some sales and fee amounts in Euros and UK Pounds. The amount of time needed to identify and convert amounts to dollars far exceeded whatever benefit eBay gained by not doing the conversions before the download.

It is too soon to write a review of the OneSaas, now Intuit, eBay connector the Intuit PayPal connector appears to work correctly. I hope that eBay will start thinking more clearly about the accounting needs of legitimate sellers instead of doing whatever it is they think they are doing now.

Why bother with bookkeeping? Just sign up with a fake I.D and other fake info or a dead relative. That way you never have to worry about paying taxes, it's all gonna go over to the corrupt Ukraine regime anyway so screw it. Zelensky had months to evacuate his people, he armed them instead and the Russians slaughtered them. Never arm your citizens for war, they'll just be considered soldiers and get slaughtered...but I digress.
When Ebay suspends you just buy another fake I.D. on the dark web, works every time. What are you foolin' around on that hamster wheel for you suckers?

I just received this same notice about GoDaddy Bookkeeping Tuesday morning, the 24th of May. The 30 days they speak of is really only 3 weeks and 4 days (May 24th to June 18th), which is 25 days. This is unprofessional "bush leagues" behavior. They could have given us more time.

The first sign that anything was wrong was my local bank stopped syncing data about 4 months ago. The second sign was about a month ago when my Chase (!) credit card stopped syncing, and GoDaddy wrote that it would no longer be able to import data from Chase. This was an ominous sign, since Chase must only be the biggest financial institution in America. Suddenly we were expected to import our transactions manually. That was the whole point of having GoDaddy Bookkeeping. We didn't have to worry about importing all these transactions and could focus on everything else that online selling involves.

Moving forward, I have many of the same questions that others have. I've used GoDaddy Bookkeeping since 2013, when I started selling as a business, back when it was known as Outright (as I Must be Crazy mentioned). It was affordable, reliable, and easy to use. I depended on it heavily to do my tax returns. I don't know what I'll do. This is really bad news.

This is sad. Quick books is too expensive. If anyone finds anything else please share with us here. I'm not sure what to do I wish they would change their minds or sell it to someone or accountants that would take it over for the money. I also read that they are prorating it so people will get refunds.

I was scrambling to find something to replace GoDaddy.  I was so freakin' mad they did this to us.  I found:  My Reseller Genie.  It is easy to use, not as pretty as GoDaddy but it does the job.  There are You Tube videos for it.  That is how I found it.  After the second day it was simple to use.  Check it out.

So is there any other online service that will integrate Ebay sales/expenses information like Go Daddy except Quickbooks (which seems complicated).  I'm also one of those sellers that has been using Outright/Godaddy for years to complete my taxes.   It was easy, straight forwarded to use and I can't believe the short notice they are giving.  Especially since there does not seem to be a similar service available.  HELP!!!

My understanding from My Reseller Genie is that it is not yet set up to integrate bank information.   I need a service that will integrate all information from banks, credit cards, and Ebay.
