Etsy Funds Another Sale This Week - Which Sellers Will Benefit?

Seems pretty clear where Etsy’s focus is concentrated.  Retail.  Not handmade.  Not after-market or custom.  Not unique vintage. Mass produced consumerism.

A 96 hour 10% subsidy, albeit fairly timed to an ‘occasion’ where giving a gift is traditional while introducing their ‘think-for-you bot’, is not going to induce anything sustainable though, even for those besides Etsy who might benefit over the next couple weeks.  And ❤️ day is cutting it a bit close to be ordering on-line for it now, no?  Maybe the coupon helps pay for overnight shipping though…

,.."with a heavy emphasis on deep discounting".  Well, here we have our answer.    Etsy is now competing with the likes of Temu.  If I were a buyer of such cheap stuff I'd go straight to Temu rather than buy this junk at greatly inflated prices on eats/  Those etsy sellers who are trying to sell vintage and quality handmade will be in for a rough ride.  Mass market consumers want their stuff cheap. Those seeking quality will look elsewhere because Temu and Temu-like merchandise does not make for a unique, quality, and yes, luxurious buying experience on a junk site which etsy has become.

$50 is high for the sellers with lots of little stuff. The promo for $5 off $25 was better. But since more people would take advantage of that, it would cost more for Etsy, so they won't do it again..

…is how I think of Etsy. The site has turned into an overseas junkyard while attracting a low income buyer, who, I guess, needs an extra $5 bucks.

If I were a part of Etsys’ executive management team, I’d be embarrassed.

**** Latest bad news for Etsy….Ouch!!!! ****

I just saw a report on CNBC on how search data increased for companies who advertised on the Super Bowl.

The data compared, Sunday, (Super bowl Sunday) to the Sunday prior.  While many companies who bought Super Bowl TV Ads saw double digit activity gains, Etsys’ activity during the Super Bowl came in at a MINUS 90% compared to the prior Sunday!!

In other words, buying the Super Bowl Ad did nothing for Etsy, as reported by CNBC.

I’m sure heads are rolling at Etsy.

I received a coupon on Mercari for $10 off a $10 purchase or more today. That made me  want to shop!

With Etsy's promo of $5 off of a $50 purchase, it feels much harder to do when budgets are much smaller this year. I like that they are running ads and trying to gain new buyers. Definitely could use some higher dollar sales in 2024.

There was nothing about the Super Bowl ad that would make someone hurry to click over to Etsy and shop/explore the site at game time.  A waste of money IMO.

the ad was about the new AI  powered gift mode & is totally worth the freakout comments on reddit.

as far as the sale: I think all sellers have a chance to benefit from the traffic. Whether they make a sale or not, depends on them.

I agree, however, how is Etsy going to encourage Buyers to visit the site in the first place? This could be the REAL problem for Etsy as Etsy loses Buyer traffic.

I can't shop on Etsy at this point because there is simply no way to view items that match my search terms. It's good to know that this issue is dependent on shop owner practices and behavior (not).  The types of items featured in the new Gift Mode seem like odd choices to me, at least for the interests I viewed.

As for the whopping $5 discount, that seems like nothing given that most items listed for sale on Etsy are already available on other sites for a lower price that is more than a $5 difference.
