eBay Confirms New Feedback Changes Are Intentional

A week after eBay changed how it displayed feedback, the company confirmed the changes were intentional. As we reported on November 1st, sellers had been unable to find recent feedback and, they said, it made it appear they had not left any feedback for buyers.

Some questioned why eBay would do anything to jeopardize feedback during the holiday shopping season if it had made the changes by design.

Rather than announce the change ahead of time, eBay waited until one week after the changes appeared, publishing a thread on the Selling Board titled, “Feedback enhancements now visible” (it did not announce the change on the Seller Announcement Board).

The November 8th thread stated:

All,
Over the past few months, we’ve been working to improve the feedback experience for buyers on eBay. We are making these changes in order to give potential buyers better insight into your products.

We recently updated the default sort to highlight the most relevant feedback for your potential buyers.

We have also started rolling out images on feedback to select sellers who have listings with multiple quantities.

Starting this month, sellers will be able to preview feedback images on their own sold items. At this time, other eBay buyers and sellers will not be able to view images in your feedback. Existing policies related to feedback and feedback removal will also apply to images. Once this rollout is complete, we’ll be expanding image feedback visibility to buyers.

With these updates, your potential buyers will see your most engaged buyers’ feedback and be more confident about their purchasing decisions. Richer text and images in feedback may add credibility and drive sales by instilling additional confidence for interested buyers as they shop. To date, we’ve already collected almost a million images and the vast majority are associated with positive feedback and showcase the great products and positive experiences buyers have with our eBay sellers.

These updates will serve to add credibility to reviews and increase buyer confidence, while also elevating your feedback scores and helping to drive conversion.

As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

  1. Ebay is just getting dumber and dumber, I saw the jumbled feedback, it showed a sold item from year plus back, hows that show how I’m doing now. I couldn’t even see the latest feedback from my buyers. More stupid useless ideas yet been asking for combine shipping on the app(we’re working on it) for 6 years.

  2. Just dumb. Ebay management is sinking the ship. Our Ebay packing slips are now showing 0 feedback with 100% positive feedback. Idiots.

  3. “We recently updated the default sort to highlight the most relevant feedback for your potential buyers.”

The buyer is now getting the “best match” FB?

  4. I love how the feedback system is basically useless anyways. At least 3 times in the last two years, I’ve left negative feedback for sellers selling counterfeit items, be it shoes or car parts, only to have eBay come back through and delete the comments like they never existed, meantime the seller is still on the site selling counterfeit items.

  5. I do not pay attention to buyer feedback unless there is a problem. Good feedback describing superior service and product quality is helpful. I leave feedback for buyers when they pay. In some categories repeat buyers dominate, so feedback is not an issue.

It is important to highlight memberships in organizations that enforce a code of conduct. Listing quality is a major problem in some eBay collectible categories. Serious buyers seem able to avoid the worst sellers most of the time.
