BigCommerce Merchants Can Add Marketplace Component

Merchants who use BigCommerce to power their online stores will be able to add a marketplace component thanks to a strategic partnership between BigCommerce and Marketplacer.

The feature allows merchants to diversify their offerings by opening up to other third-party sellers.

“The BigCommerce Marketplacer connected model allows customers to expand without boundaries – turning suppliers into sellers and adding hundreds or thousands of new products to the site without the burden of managing inventory and warehousing requirements nor disrupting shopping or delivery experiences,” according to this week’s announcement from BigCommerce.

An excerpt on the Marketplacer website explains:

“The BigCommerce Connector turns any BigCommerce store into a powerful marketplace. There is no need to re-platform, and retailers keep their BigCommerce environment intact. Their BigCommerce interface, backend management tools, and established workflows remain. Meanwhile, a new layer of marketplace functionality is added.”

It explained that marketplace sellers manage their own unique product catalog, pricing strategies, and shipping policies via Marketplacer while the connector ensures the details are accurately reflected across both platforms. “For the marketplace operator, having fast and reliable data syncing introduces the ideal balance between platform consistency and vendor autonomy.”

BigCommerce said its customers will now be able to transform their online stores into powerful marketplaces where they can sell more diversified products and provide seamless shopping experiences that drive conversions and accelerate growth.
