Etsy Lures Last-Minute Shoppers with New Gift Teasers

Etsy came up with a way to attract last-minute shoppers who otherwise might be hesitant to buy online gifts over fear they might not arrive in time. Gift teasers is a new feature that lets shoppers send a digital preview of the gift they purchased on Etsy to the ultimate recipient.

“Now, even last-minute shoppers can purchase extra special gifts from Etsy sellers like you thanks to Etsy’s new gift teaser,” Etsy announced. “Shoppers can instantly send a digital preview of the gift directly to the recipient or schedule their teaser to be sent when the item ships so they know something awesome is on the way.”

Sellers who may be dreading learning what is involved on their part to make gift teasers available to shoppers will be relieved to learn they don’t have to do anything. But Etsy sellers will know if shoppers are using the feature – “If the buyer creates a gift teaser, you’ll see the gift message badge on the order in your Shop Manager,” Etsy explained.

The feature does not apply to digital items.

Etsy is positioning its marketplace as a solution for gift-givers, even running an ad promoting the concept during this month’s Superbowl. In May, it relaunched its wedding registry (first launched in 2012) and in August, it announced new gift and baby gift registries.

On January 24, 2024, it officially announced Gift Mode, “an interactive hub for gifting that combines AI and human curation to help shoppers find the perfect present.”

Etsy also plans to launch a buyer loyalty program.

Etsy announced the new gift teaser feature on its Seller Announcement board on February 27, 2024.
